#1 Post by sani » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:58 pm

Hi to all and first of all excuse me for my poor english!!!

I have a T42 from 3 yeras ago. It works perfectly, i changed the display,... and it works great for these years.

But last week it wass on, and the battery discharges, now it dont power on any more.

The battery charges, but it dont power on, neither with battery or with the power cable.

If i plug and unplug the battery, and pulse the power button the power ligth bring for less than a second.

What do you think?? what can happens. If there is no solution i would bougth another one, but i leke this computer, and i have a lot of accesories for it like ultrabay battery, dvd-rw,......

Hi: Try to completely reset it. Remove the battery, and unplug the A/C adapter. Push the power button 10 times, holding it for a full 10 seconds the last time.

sani same thing happened to my T42 when I tried to solve the desoldered GPU problems with a heat gun. After the procedure of reheating the solder I have the same problems as you described in your first post.

The battery can be charged, the battery icon lihgts orange when battery is under 90% and it blinks at the end of the charge. But if I try to power it on all I get is a short blink of the battery LED and then nothing. If I press the power button again nothing happens.

I tried to determine what is the problem and as far as I can tell there must be some "short circuit" detection circuit or maybe some failure in initialisation that causes the power protection to kick in. I tried to check every voltage regulator on the board (there is around 10) and it seems that everything is fine... but it might be some damaged chip that is causing too much current drain.

richk: where did you get info about that "complete reset" from? I tried it but it makes no difference.
