T43 Dropped! Lcd question

#1 Post by marcooks » Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:47 pm

I guys,

I have my T43 for 2 years and I'm very impressed about it in general.

Today, my cat "had fun" with my laptop... It dropped from about 1 feet. It was off and closed. So the only thing happened is that it flipped (like a toast!) 180degres and land on the Lcd side.

I wasn't worried at first. It runs, but the lcd won't. I plugged ans external screen.

I've done research and I think I will have to buy another lcd. what do you think?

I have read de manual and I've checked the plug to be sure it was ok...

I don't want to spend 500$

Usually, it means the LCD is broken. It is possible that the backlight snapped, but usually it is the panel. (Most people "fix" the backlight by replacing the screen anyway, because they are hard to replace. It is also possible, but unlikely, the motherboard is broken, but in most cases, MB failure will also affect external video. The screen off any T40/T41/T42/T43 will fit. Is your machine 14" or 15"? XGA, SXGA+, UXGA? I do have some screens around here that will fit.

Try reseating the LCD's ribbon cable both at the system board (first) and if that doesn't work at the back of the LCD. Use the T43 hardware maintenance manual.

Certainly checking the connection is free, but the connector is screwed in and difficult to dislodge. The one behind is taped. The only times I have found that reseating works is if there was some moisture inside that affected the contacts. In those cases, cleaning and reseating can help.

thank you guys for the fast reply!

The MB is ok I think because I was able to use the laptob via the external port...

M laptop is the 2686DGF it's the SXGA+ 14.1''

I'm mad at my cat... :P

So I did my homework tonight...I have unplug the cable that connect in the MB. It didn't change anything.

I don't understand why the Lcd display something...and I'm able to see with an external Lcd. It must be the Lcd panel...

Thank you guys... I appreciate a lot!

Felix

I just want to mention that there are occasional MB problems that affect only the LCD. The external works fine.

Shine a flashlight on the LCD and see if you can still make it out. If you can, it's probably the backlight or inverter.

First of all, i felt sorry for you, and faulty LCD screen.

well, i guess this is the time to change a new LCd screen.
Maybe you will feel more happy with your new screen which is bright enough.
Try to choose the flexview version...

LCD's are relatively inexpensive, compared to 5+ years ago. If you are really latched on to your notebook, no may be a good time to "upgrade" your LCD panel....if at all possible.

Any compatible drop in upgrades available?
