T21 sxga lcd is flickering

#1 Post by Stevesoura » Sat Oct 06, 2007 1:29 pm

Ok so im starting to get some flickering on my T21 sxga lcd. It is not bad but is giving me a headache. It mostly flickers the most when I am moving the wireless mouse or typing. When looking at the lcd, it does not flicker much until doing the mouse and typing. I am hopeing it is somthing as simple as changing out the inverter. What do you guys think?

Seems like the inverter to me. Thankfully it's the easiest and (usually) cheapest part to replace in regards to the LCD. Download the Hardware Maintainance Manual to get the right part number and disassembly instructions. What you could also do is take off the keyboard and press down on the LCD cable connection. Maybe it's a little loose.

Could be the inverter, the CCFL (backlight), the ribbon cable, the lid switch or the motherboard. If you have an electronics surplus supply store near you, this might help:

An NE2 bulb should only run about $1 or $2. I've been able to check inverters from a T2x, A31 and X22 using this method. If the neon bulb glows steady while the backlight flickers, then it's probably the backlight. If the neon bulb flickers in sync with the backlight, then it may be any one of the things I've mentioned.
