Ultra Connect External Antenna Question

#1 Post by JohnyKwst » Sun Oct 07, 2007 3:42 am

Does the ultra connect external antenna on the X60 only help with WWAN networks such as verizon's or does it also help with N networks?

How much of a difference does the T7300 2 ghz 4mb of cache help versus the T7100 1.8ghz 2 mb of cache?

The Lenovo information on the X61 antennae is confusing and inconsistent :?.

As far as I can tell, on the X61 the WWAN antenna is completely independent of the WiFi antenna. If you do not get a WWAN model, you do not get the WWAN antenna. The WiFi antenna seems to come in two flavors: 2x2 and 2x3. You need 2x3 if you want 802.11n.

In theory, if you order an 802.11n WiFi card, you should automatically get the 2x3 antenna. If I were ordering, I would call them and check first, then when you get the system open it up and make sure the three antenna wires are there and plugged in (gray+blue+white). If you get a 2x2 antenna (no white) with an 802.11n card, you are not going to get full n performance. I had to figure this out from the X61 Hardware Maintenance Manual.

I wish Lenovo would clearly explain their antennae setup and nomenclature. As it stands right now it is a detective story.

As for the T7300 vs T7100, the difference is less than $40, and I wouldn't hesitate to get the T7300.
