Adding Integrated Wireless WAN?

Hi,

My T61 7663-CTO came without this option, In Kuwait Lenovo doesn't offer Integrated Wireless WAN So I'm using a Sierra Wireless HSDPA PCMCIA can install the Integrated Wireless WAN device into my T61 is it a big issue can i do it my self?

First you want to check if a 2nd mini-pci-express slot is available by opening up the thinkpad. If yes then you should be able to add integrated WWAN. Adding the antenna to the LCD can be tricky though. You will also need the SIM card module. Check Hardware Maintenance Manual for details.

Yeah I was irritated to learn that my T60 doesn't have that second mini-PCIe slot. And installing antennas in the LCD assembly is a prick.

I was looking into this too a few weeks ago. I figured out that it would be way too pricy, because in my country they give you a free modem with your HSDPA subscription, and if you don't want the modem, you still pay the same.

So that would be:

250 euro's Sierra Integrated HSDPA card (excl. 17 euros shipping)

45 USD simcardslot (excl. international shipping a la 40 USD (?))

It would be easier if they allowed the student laptop on the school wifi, but they don't :evil:
