System Update

#1 Post by kengeo » Sun Oct 07, 2007 12:04 pm

I have a T21 2647-8ag with XP Pro. & have just downloaded &
installed 'System Update'. The question is how does it work?
There seems to be no way of activating it so it scans the machine
then updates any drivers or utilities etc. The only place I can see it is in the 'Add/remove programs'! so I don't know if it's working or
not. I understand this replaced 'Software Installer'which fixed everything when I installed XP 3 years ago. Please enlighten me!!

If you go to Start/Control Panel, you should see the Automatic Updates Icon.

To manually trigger updates, I've found opening Internet Explorer and selecting Windows Update will do it.

If you have IE7, you will need to select "Tools" on the right side of the toolbar, then "Menu Bar" to get the options you're accustomed to seeing.

Did you look under the Start menu, under Thinkvantage? If you already had a folder with that name, it would have been added to it...

Ironic that you ask, because I just downloaded it, and was in the process of running it for the first time on a T30...

Thanks for your help, especially tfflivemb2, I opened the Thinkpad
folder in the start menu & there it was!! (I had been looking for a shortcut to System Update) I clicked on it & it worked perfecly, scanned & updated 6 items. I feel I can now wipe the drive & clean re-install XP Pro. I had been worried that System Update would not
support the T21 but it obviously does. I love this forum!! :D
