T61/p - Stiff TrackPoint
T61/p - Stiff TrackPoint
No matter how I set the properties in Control Panel the TrackPoint in my new T61p is much stiffer than my A31p, A31 and my old 600. Has anyone else noticed this and if so can you suggest a fix?

I suggest you guys change your trackpoints.

I agree, T60, T61 and R61 trackpoint are harder to move even when set to light touch. I have even set the mouse to the max sensitivity in the Windows tab. It was far better on T4x.
I remember with my A30, it have the same behaviour. I complain to IBM, they change the keyboard. This did not change the issue. Later, IBM release a new driver witch solve the problem.
I was so disapointed in the first time that I search all the web to find a solution. I found the IBM research center (where they invent the trackpoint) and I contact them. They send me a registry hack call third_sensitivity.reg and the trackpoint was much lighter to move.

This is the first thing I try to find on all my backup but I don't have it any more. I also google about it but I not sure about the name. It's a .reg file and the name is build with third and sensitivity or sensitive (thirdsensitivity.reg, third_sentitivity.reg, thirdsensitive.reg)... It was so long ago. And perhaps it will not work with ultranav A30/A31 witch only have trackpoint.
If I found it, I will try and of course upload it and link it here.

Trackpoint Stiff - Experiment
My T61/p came with the rough surface dome Trackpoint cover and a package of three other covers. After going back to my recently serviced A31/p that received a new keyboard with the "cupped" cover, I decided to switch the cover on my T61/p.
Now I don't know if it was the pressure of removing the old cover and installing the new one, or perhaps the cupped cover is a bit taller and exerts more leverage against the underlying strain guage, but the difference is like night and day. In fact, I had to go into control panel and stiffen the pointer a bit as I was "overflying" it.
I'd be interested if anyone else who complained about a stiff Trackpoint on the T 61 can try this and confirm what I sem to have done.
