Lightscribe Writer - Aftermarket or OEM to install

#1 Post by crashnburn » Mon Oct 08, 2007 12:04 am

Is it possible to install an OEM / Aftermarket drive that has Lightscribe (or similar printing technology) in a thinkpad T6x or T4x series machine?

Thoughts?
Ideas?
Direction?

I'm pretty sure that there are no 9.5mm LightScribe drives being manufactured by anybody...yet.

So this could be installed in any T4x/T6x swappable drive bay?

[censored] cheap ! 65 €... It must fit. It's a super slim drive (9,5 mm).

Huh, interesting and good find, although I should point out that the above linked drive is not LightScribe but Labelflash, a competing standard by Sony/NEC that apparently only Fuji is manufacturing media for at the current time, so the costs for blanks are way higher than LightScribe blanks.

You can see this TomsHardware article for more information.

Thanks Nathan. Did that googling, found Toms and a couple of other reviews. I'll hold off until these "fancy" techs stabilize or I have an urge to create PRETTY discs.
