T30 lid on a T23 base?
T30 lid on a T23 base?
Hi all,
Continuing on my quest to give my T23 internal Wifi I came across a T30 lid with antennas. Can I swap the T30 lid onto my T23? Will it fit? Where would I find what parts are swappable from one Thinkpad to the next for further reference? Thanks

hmmm,i can't give you any straight answer to that question, however i'm in the works of doing the same thing for my T22. i just got it back working with my dads help saturday night, so i want to make the most of it.
i think that instead of going with a different models LCD lid, you could just as easily use a USB adapter and mount it internally. you could do this by modifying a PCMCIA card, or even just modding the USB ports onboard.
my thoughts on doing it would be after getting a USB2 card for this, i'd modify the onboard USB port, and snake a cable around the internals, and just take over that port. as for having the adapter really high quality, i'd just buy a second netgear WG111v2 [thats what i have now] and just take it apart, mounting the chip only in a clear spot, but i'd have it rest on top of foam [for protection against shock as well as a short with the motherboard.
using a USB adapter in my opinion would be easier than trying to snake a whole antenna around or something, the whole receiver is just there.
hope that can strike some encouraging thoughts about the process, it seems relatively easy, it just takes some ingenuity and workarounds.

Re: T30 lid on a T23 base?
Don't believe so. While I don't have a T30 in my collection, I know that the base is significantly different in size than the T2x systems.LPC wrote:Can I swap the T30 lid onto my T23? Will it fit?
Grab yourself a copy of the Hardware Maintenance Manuals from here:LPC wrote:Where would I find what parts are swappable from one Thinkpad to the next for further reference?

and check the diagrams and drawings. If you do that for the T2x and T30, you will see that the hinges are quite different.

T2x and T30 have a completely different system of lid attachment to the base, so NO, this will not work, don't waste your money.

Just an idea ... there is a USB connection on top of the T23 lid under the small rubber cap, not a standard one but the 4 contacts are there.
I think it was for a IBM camera or something.
One could modify a wi-fi usb to fit there...
