LF: 1.8 inch hard disk for X40/41

#1 Post by synchromesh » Mon Oct 08, 2007 9:00 pm

I'm looking for a 1.8in hard disk for Thinkpad X40. Preferably 40GB+ but will consider smaller if the price is right. Caddy would be nice too but not a requirement. I have laptop and desktop parts I can trade or can pay cash/paypal or a combo thereof.

They are getting very rare, and when you do find one, be prepared to pay a premium for even a 20GB drive.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

There are two kinds of 1.8" laptop hard drives. The great majority won't fit the X-series Thinkpads.

How much would you pay for a 40GB disk?

(I am debating getting a X40 and selling the HDD since I do not need it)

Not sure if they need to be from IBM or if a Hitachi OEM 1.8 will work, but here is a 60GB for a decent price;

The guy who sells the 30GB disks is located about 10 minutes away from my house. I've spoken to him and this might be an option.

However, I would prefer a 40GB or 60GB disk instead if anybody has one.

Update: bought that 30GB, it's running well so far. It was brand new, I tore open the static bag myself. Still looking for that caddy. It's holding on with just screws. If anyone has a caddy or a larger 1.8in drive, let me know.
