Help Installing XP

#1 Post by dtzihe » Tue Oct 09, 2007 4:23 pm

Hello all,

I built a new computer and installed a copy of Windows XP on it. That XP could not be activated because someone stole my key bode and is now expired. So, I decided to buy "XP for system builders" (http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows ... 291&sr=8-2)

The problem is that I am now locked out of my computer and so I cannot access the CD. And when I boot my computer with the CD inside, my computer just ignores it and goes directly to the XP Activation Screen.

Any ideas on what I could do to install my new copy of Windows? I have an idea to change the boot sequence to boot from CD, but I forget how to do that.

Thanks!

MOD EDIT: Duplicate thread.

If you have a valid CD with a valid Key Code, then start the ThinkPad, press F12 (a couple of times) and when the boot sequence appears, insert your Windows CD, change the boot sequence and start again by formatting and installing. If the computer is not a ThinkPad, there is still a key sequence to change the boot order. ... JDH

Not sure dtzihe is being completely forthright here, as he initially said he installed a pirated copy of Windows XP:

Now he claims someone stole his key code. Huh?
