Format new external HD

Hello,

I have a brand new external hard drive in a USB enclosure. This harddrive is not formatted, and thus not seen by XP. Is there a way to format it in XP without installing it in a desktop? I only have my thinkpad....

Provided it is working correctly (does it have a jumper?) go to; | Start (menu) | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Disk Management ( in the left window) you should see a list of drives, click in he black band of disk 1 and you should see an option to format the drive.
