I just bought a new T42p and have already used "Create Recovery Discs" on the Programs menu to create the 7-disc set that will allow me to restore the hard drive to factory-fresh status.
Yet I've noticed the other menu option "Create Rescue Media". How does that differ? Should I run that application also?
As someone with a good deal of experience reformatting the hard drive of my desktop PC and reinstalling XP every few months just to clean out all the junk, I find all the different IBM programs on my Thinkpad a little confusing. Update Connector, Access IBM...couldn't they have consolidated these things?
One other thing: The only real change I made to the computer before making the recovery discs was to delete Norton anti-virus, which came pre-loaded and kept asking me to install it. Others have said Norton kind of slows things down, so I deleted it. Will this deletion be reflected in the recovery discs (causing a problem) or do the recovery discs get their info from the factory-fresh hidden partition?
