Where did you see the clearance links? I'd be interested there, just not to interested in WWAN

For clearance items, go to lenovo.com then click Outlet Products on the front page.

Not to thread jack here, but

wow, those are some smoking prices!! I never knew it.

When it says, DVD, RW, etc, and then Dock X6, I assume that means there is a DOCK included as well?

What is WRONG with these machines, are they returns or refurbs? No warranty?

They are CTO(Custom To Order) machines that IBM got stuck with one way or another, and were sitting in Inventory. IBM discounted them, and sold them.

On around Sept19th or so, I bought two T61's for around $1900, loaded. They have warranties, as well. Some only had the 1 year manufacturers, and some had more.

I called last week, and the sales rep said they sold out the week of September 25th. I got paid the beginning of October, and was going to buy another one for my mom- I ended up giving one of the two T61's to my sister.

I hope IBM does this again in the future.

My advice: Call and find out.

I ordered two machines around September 19th. I recieved both. I called back on October 02, and was told the clearance machines had all sold out. Maybe I got a lazy CSR, maybe I got a stupid CSR, if so, it would be worth one's while to see if any are still available.

To make it easier, pick out 5-10 of the ones you think are suitable before you call. Then have the customer service rep start checking if they are available in order of your preference. As soon as one turns up in stock buy it. Evidently they do go fast. They just need the "Part Number" to look it up.

So,

#10 Post by nikemen » Thu Oct 11, 2007 12:25 pm

So, I called this AM to check on some of the units, and they had STOCK, but I hadn't decided yet.

When I decided, 10 minutes later, I called back and got a rep who said, "nothing in stock, sold out last week"

So, I called back again, and put in the order(s). The ones I wanted were in STOCK, and I have order confirmations.

This pricing, the third rep said, is cheaper than EMPLOYEE pricing. He said he purchased some units two weeks ago, and NOW they are 15% cheaper than that price was.

I ended up going pretty full tilt

X61t
1.6
3GB
Turbo Memory (not sure if this does anything)
100 GB 7200 rpm drive. Thought I wanted the 120 5400, for sound and cooler, but what the heck

SXGA+ screen (not sure if I am going to like this, so I ordered an XGA model to boot!

DVD recorder,
DOCK!
Intel ANG
VISTA Business
8-cell extended battery

All for 1350$
CRAZY money

To whomever moved this thread, it's Lenovo's outlet center, not IBM's. IBM still sells used ThinkPad and Lenovo machines, though.

I just wanted to say thanks to the original poster!

After calling today and going through oh, fourteen or fifteen models that were already sold (across 2 different phone calls and about 45 minutes), I came across one that was still left and bought it!

The rep said the site was updated last night, but also that people had been calling and looking up models all day, so they are going quickly. He did say that they had multiples of some of the models available, so I'd recommend keeping on trying if you want one. They do still have some left. They are shipping from North Carolina and will be out the door within 3 days of order per the rep.

Here's the one I ended up with:

Thinkpad X61
Core2 Duo T7300 2.0 gigahertz w/ 4 meg L2 cache
12.1 inch 1024x768 display, 2x3 ultraconnect antenna
XP Professional
60 gig 5400 RPM drive
1 gig of RAM
Wireless N
Bluetooth
4 cell battery
1 year warranty

$692. I was real happy with that price as this will be my new "take to the bookstore" machine. I'm giddy as I've been wanting an X series machine for 2-3 years now...:)

Do you mind sending the part number for that one, I am going to buy an X61 for my mother in law, that fits the bill.

The account rep told me that I got the last one of that part number. I had just copied the list from the website into excel and sorted by OS and price and went down the list and checked the ones i was interested in. Hope that helps!

Well, this has been a great thread for me to read. I have been reading this forum for a couple of years, and finally registered a little while ago thinking I would pick up good sale on an X series tablet for my wife from the listings in the marketplace.

I tried to get in on some of the outlet sales last week, but could never find any in stock. One of the Lenovo sales reps said to call back every few days, as they restock that often. This morning, there was new stock, so I was able to pick up the following.

776LVA5531 ThinkPad X61 Tablet $1,535.19
12.1" MultiView + MultiTouch WVA XGA
Genuine Windows Vista Business
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory
2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory
Intel Turbo Memory 1GB
100GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN
Bluetooth w/ antenna
Microsoft OneNote 2007

nice unit.

not only that, but they have finally put the data in a table. Easier to take it over to excel, but still, works better.

Yes, that's a nice improvement. I got the X61 I ordered yesterday, very happy with the machine so far. If you order, please be aware that the information on the order page is potentially way out of date. For example, according to the order page my machine hasn't shipped yet and I never did get an email with a tracking number, etc....

yes

#19 Post by nikemen » Tue Oct 23, 2007 12:58 pm

yes, this has been a process of NO information.

I have received nothing yet, ordered on the 10th.

Website says, in processing still, no ship info, no nothing. couple of CSR's say, nothing will arrive. Others say, these have shipped, but they have NO shipping info.

i know from over at the FW and SD thread, most people, it seems are just having the units arrive and there is no shipping info to speak of. That seems pretty darn crazy!

I can only hope that mine will arrive sometime in the next few days, I had a whole bunch of plans for this unit, but not getting it just sucks!

Yes, was suprised by the way the transaction went compared to my R40 purchase nearly 4 years ago. The CSR did tell me on the phone that the unit would ship in 3 days and, based on the attempt to deliver Friday when I hadn't arranged for anyone to be home (argh....) it did ship in 3 days.

Hope you get yours soon. I did come 100% as advertised and I was able to register the unit with no issues, etc.

Adding internal WWAN card to a thinkpad x61 or t61

#21 Post by LogixNetworks » Wed Oct 31, 2007 12:26 am

I want to buy a laptop off the outlet and add the wan card myself. I'm sure the mini pci card is easy to install but is the antenna a separately-installed part too? Is it already pre-wired?
I'd hate to take apart the lcd to run a wwan antenna.
Do particular model numbers have the lcd assembly fitted w/ wan antenna?

Yes.

Only on those models which ship with WWAN cards.

still waiting

#23 Post by nikemen » Wed Oct 31, 2007 8:55 am

Just a note about the outlet.

i'm STILL waiting, order says pending, no shipment information, nothing. nobody knows if I am going to get it or not, many in the same boat.

ymmv, but if you REALLY need a computer, I would also do a backup maybe of some of the 25% off coupons out there.

Almost the same here. I was finally able to get a brief answer from Lenovo that my order would not be going through because it was already sold and shipped to someone else. I gather from reading other boards that this has been pretty common with the recent outlet sales. Luckily, I got this information in time to take advantage of the 20 percent off coupon on top of the 25 percent anniversary sale. Not as good a price as the outlet sale, but close enough so that I still feel like I got a good deal.

Wow - too bad that they sold it to you and also someone else...but 25+20 is a pretty sweet deal in the long run.

btw

#26 Post by nikemen » Wed Oct 31, 2007 5:10 pm

btw, I talked to my sales rep today, since I think I am just going to order with the 30% off deal that is going on till end of day. Might cost me a bit more for the same thing 1500 not 1300$, but I will at least have another order in the system.

He said today: I have the ONLY one of that model that was ordered, and there were TWO of them. there were NO other orders of that spec, so this is at the moment just the warehouse not being able to ship everything out, not making the invoices, not updating the shipping info, etc. They have an inside mandate to have everything shipped by the 5th of november, if I don't have tracking or CLEAR updates by then, it most likely won't ship, but at the moment odds are GOOD that it will ship.

Since the sales people make NO commission off these sales, I don't see any reason not to believe him for now.

BTW

#27 Post by nikemen » Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:51 pm

BTW, my order WONT ship.

Even though my rep continued to tell me it was going to still ship, it appears that there was ANOTHER order that noone knew about, and whadya know, it WONT ship now.

I would have just done the order with the 25% off coupon last week, but NOOO, I was going to continue to wait. Well, I'm done with it now. I hate you lenovo!

They do tell you the restrictions beforehand:
lenovo wrote:If we take your order on a product which sells out and the product can not be reordered, (1) Lenovo has the right to refuse or cancel any orders placed for the product, even if Lenovo has confirmed the order and charged your credit card; and (2) if Lenovo has charged your credit card but subsequently canceled your order, Lenovo will promptly issue a credit to your credit card account.

thanks

#29 Post by nikemen » Sat Nov 10, 2007 12:08 am

Thanks for that. Indeed, the language which was added a few days after, is indeed a warning.

My ISSUE here, was the regardless of the language and disclaimer for any responsibility, I spoke with my direct sales rep four times, and two others, ALL of whom said the product was NOT over sold, and would INDEED arrive, with a 90+% probability.

IF anyone at anytime had said, we oversold, and you are low man on the totem pole, I would have been annoyed, but moved on. IBM kept me hanging and continued to keep me hanging now for a MONTH. With constant confirmation that this LT was shipping. I should have just ordered it last week during the 30% off sale, it would have only been 150$ more for the package, but I would at least have it now today.
