T22 OS Installation Problem
T22 OS Installation Problem
Im trying to reinstall Windows XP to a T22 but when it reach to installing device, screen will automatically will shut off and hard disk activity stops and hangs but the processor is still running. I have tried to use differnt memory and hard disk but the same problem occurs. I suspect that it might be overheating problem. I try to run the memtest. I let it run for 7hrs the display did not shut off. I try to install Ubuntu linux the same thing happens the screen automatically turn off on a certain part of the installation.
Any idea whats the problem.

I have seen a Windows OS install on a T2x hang during a certain part of the process. It was due to a bad MiniPCI modem/ethernet combo card. Pull the card out and try the OS install again. In my case the display did not turn off but the system was locked; no response from the keyboard or Trackpoint.
edit: Took me a few minutes to find it again, but this thread may look familiar:

No magic cures - back to basics.
Remove any Mini PCIs
One SODIMM only
Bios - load defaults
Disable all ports, S P & IR
No mouse, external keyboard or port rep. Plug in an external screen if you have one
At the XP option delete all partitions
If using a large HD set up a 20Gb patition and do a full format (not quick) NTFS
If the screen goes off but the HD is still loading leave alone. It may reboot once the first stage of installation has completed.
If still no good you need a friend with the same type to do an XP install in your HD for you to narrow the options.
Good luck

The OP mentions about your suspicion that it may be a 'heat' related issue. Have you confirmed that it is not that problem ?
Will you pls take out and connect the hdd (with the incomplete_XP files inside) to another pc via an adaptor (usb) and check the windows folders, system32 folders, and the setuplog.txt, setuperror.txt etc and write back ?
Pls note what was the last entry in the *.txt files after which windows had stopped loading. This will give you the clue as to why and where the loading had stopped.

Based upon the last GUID seen in the log (50127DC3-0F36-415E-A6CC-4CB3BE910B65), I'd venture a guess and say it might be your CPU. Download a copy of T2x PC Doctor for DOS from one of these locations:
Diskettes
.ISO (CD) image file
and run both the CPU and Systemboard tests.

@DoCKLeng
Actually only the last entry is of importance.
Pls also check the last entry in:
setupapi.log
setuperror.txt
These will be in "Windows\System32" folder.
setupapi will tell if any power mngmt related issues are there which are the most common problems for T20/T21/T22.
setuperror will say in general.
Pls either mention them or check it up yourself.
Goodluck
