T61P with Vistax64 buggy

Well..after running for a few weeks with Vista x64, I've been noticing some disturbing problems.

1) Occasionally fails to resume on suspend. This is unforgivable
2) Firefox occasionally "locks" up
3) running IE7 in admin mode causes thinkpad security to "install" something and prompt for a reboot
4) Nvidia drivers crash fairly frequently.

On the plus side, with 4GB RAM and a 7k200, it is screamingly fast..:-)

Note that I am not using hacked drivers or anything of the like. Just standard drivers from the Lenovo, and Windows update sites.

Any ideas?

1) Occasionally fails to resume on suspend. This is unforgivable
are you using lenovo client security solutions (CSS) or access connections?   if so, try uninstalling them.   my vista x64 installation wakes up without any hangups whatsoever.

also be sure you have KB941649 installed.
2) Firefox occasionally "locks" up
for how long?   i had this problem in server 2003 and decided to not install java this time.   firefox will slow down occasionally but never locks up.
3) running IE7 in admin mode causes thinkpad security to "install" something and prompt for a reboot
is this under IE7 x86 or x64?   are you using user access control?   try disabling UAC and/or using the x86 version and see what happens.
4) Nvidia drivers crash fairly frequently.
what are you doing when the drivers crash?   i've never had mine lock up so more info is needed to help diagnose this problem.

Its a pretty bare install. All MS hotfixes to dates, including 941649.
The only Thinkvantage app I have is Lenovo CSS, simply because I really like the fingerprint feature. I don't use access connections, etc.

I do have Java installed, as its required here in IBM for many websites.

In terms of the Nvidia drivers, its running the WHQL x64 drivers from WindowsUpdate (v156.65). Would you mind telling me what version you are running? When I do get any info in event logs on the crash, its in NVVDM, which is Nvidia. Typically, games like Civ 4, or EQ2 will cause a crash. I'm almost starting to suspect an overheating problem, since is usually occurs after at least an hour or so of gameplay. Still, I've also seen it crash during normal desktop use, albeit rarely.

Was also wondering..do you have the robson cache? I'm trying to figure out how are systems are different. Thanks!

just for kicks, try uninstalling CSS and see if that fixes your issues with sleep resume.   i don't have CSS or AC installed and mine wakes up like an XP system.

java seems to be the issue with firefox.   i haven't found a workaround for this outside of not installing java.  

i'm on the WHQL x64 7.15.11.5666 driver released to windows update on october 8th.   i don't play games though.   you could always uninstall that driver and revert to 7.15.11.0145 to see if that helps.

no turbo memory here.   i had an engineering sample for a few days but didn't see any speed differences whatsoever.   if you have it then pull it from your system and see if that helps with reliability.

The graphics problem could be unrelated. Mine and several others had the same problem, without a 64-bit operating system. I had to get mine sent in and repaired to fix the problem. To see if it's this particular problem, take out one stick of RAM and leave the other one in, and then try playing the games.

Tried dropping to 2gb..no luck. The errors are clearly video related, including bluescreens. What driver version iseveryone running? I'm just using standard WHQL drivers (latest) but I see that the "hacked non-mobile" drivers are quite a bit more recent..although they don't have mobility features. Any one have a particular driver thats stable?

I am experiencing the same problem - extremely annoying. In some cases, when attempting to resume from suspend I can hear the HD spinning, but the suspend status LED is still on and it never wakes up. Are these the same symptoms you are seeing?

What do you mean “drivers crash”? Are you experiencing Application/Game crash and BSOD or / and system shutdowns?

Did you buy you memory from Lenovo? If not what is your memory brand?

As far as I can tell, the shutdowns are related to a memory problem and taking out one stick can help. This is being discussed in: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=176942

did you try the original 7.15.11.0145 driver that i suggested and linked above?   if not, it's worth a shot.
