Fresh Vista Install on x61 - anyone documented it

#1 Post by gbernard » Sun Oct 14, 2007 3:45 am

Hi I will receive my new fully loaded x61 early this week.

I have always done a new fresh install, with a manual driver download from ibm.

I am doing this now with vista, can anyone point me to a link where someone has done this before and documented step by step.

Not sure if this even exists it did for my x41 Tablet, for XP, was hoping the same existed for the x61 and vista.

How do you like the machine so far? I just ordered an X61 for myself last week . . . it's supposed to ship on the 19th. Very much looking forward to it.

I have no idea if anyone has done step by step on it, but its not rocket science!

Presuming you mean a fresh install of a retail Vista image, it's fairly straightforward.

Download all the Vista drivers and latest Bios and Intel chip support software (etc) for your target X61 model from the appropriate Lenovo support page and put them on a USB memory stick.

Then boot up from the Vista retail distribution media and use the key provide with the media. This should install a workable image on your X61. Then install the Lenovo specific drivers off the memory stick.

If you meant something other than a Vista retail product install, you need to say what it was you were after.

Cheers,

@dc_slim, haven't gotten it yet mate, will post my impressions when I do.

@bill, i thought so, just thought I would ask, the tablet xp versions and tablet software was a bit tricky with some workarounds required, so a guy on the tablet forums named KOLO did an outstanding job of documenting a flawless process, just thought I would ask before I started.

the model I have ordered is 7676-A11, not on the lenovo australian website as yet.

I odered a 7676-3PM plus Ultrabase x6 last week, as the 15th anniversary sale price in Oz was too good to pass up.

I'll put in a 120GB Segate 7200 rpm drive, build the memory out to 3GB, and probably a Telstra Next G card, which should provide a good platform for my needs in the highly portable space.

Cheers,

Bill B.

if you can get the system up and running with an internet connection, system update automates the driver install process.
