i agree..
a spell checker would be really nice..
any suggestions beyond that initial thought..?
i agree with you but phpBB is what it is..
and no offense, but it might be as good an idea to learn how to spell and the difference between you're and your and there and their which a spell checker won't find..
i know it WILL find mis-typed wurds (i seem to do a lot of this) but most users won't hold such things against you..
i appreciate the suggestion..
perhaps if i buy a new forum application a spell checker and an RSS feed and a better ranking systemwill be part of it..
which i have been thinking about doing, again, this last month..

Even if possible, that might cause more work for the site server(s). Why not try using Firefox 2.0 with its built-in spellchecker? It's not a total or complete solution in all cases ("spellchecker" is being highlighted as incorrect
), but it's better than nothing.

There is at least one spell checker available for use with phpBB, as I frequent some other sites that have it installed.BillMorrow wrote:any suggestions beyond that initial thought..?

However, I'm not sure that given some of the other issues with access bandwidth, that installing a spellchecker would actually make ThinkPads.com any more usable in practice.
Cheers,
Bill B,
Since everyone has a word processing program, everyone already has access to a spell checker.
Typing posts into a wp program, spell checking (and grammar checking for that matter), copying and pasting into the empty "message body" box works fine for me.

Yeah, I do that a lot...in particular with some of the larger posts I have made!dsvochak wrote:Since everyone has a word processing program, everyone already has access to a spell checker.

Bill, thanks for the response. I agree on the spelling part, I do a lot of "document" reading at work (as well as tons of email) and it is amazing the amount of errors that I see and how spell checker will not pick them up.
There are some good ones on the net:
"I have a spelling checker
It came with my PC
It planely marks for my revue
Mistakes I can knot sea
I ran this poem threw it
And I'm sure yule bee glad two no
Its letter perfect in it's weigh
My checker told me sew."

I installed Wordweb for a quick reference to my spelling needs. While I don't use it often, there are those words that throw you. By selecting the word as though I were going to copy it then clicking the icon in the tray, the software brings up a full dictionary description or offers suggestions for spelling.
As mentioned above, software doesn't catch everything and neither do I.
I hadn't thought of typing in word and doing the cut/paste deal.
Good idea!
Joe
