What did I screw up and can I live w/o it?
When I did the reflow trick on my T40, I had some difficulty getting all the bits back together. In fact in trying to get the motherboard to sit right at the back within the potmetal brace(?), I pushed too hard and stapped off a small connector just to the right of the center at the back. It's white, four "whiskers" leading into it. Bad night, I was tired and clumsy.
What did I screw up?
If it's the modem connector, I can certainly live w/o it and would then put the whole thing back together and see if the reflow worked. If it's not and is something useful, then I need to get a new base or mb.
Thanks for your help.
David

I always assumed that the cable only affected the modem, but I looked closer and now I don't think so. I don't have a schematic, but my guess is that it will affect the wired LAN connection. There are 3 connectors along the cable. All 4 are present at the middle connector (near the modem and ethernet ports. 2 wires go to the modem, and 2 wires go to the connector you broke. I would expect the wires to be the transmit and receive lines for the 2 ports. If you reassemble it, please post back. I always am looking for info like this that actually comes from testing, rather than from my looking at the board with a magnifier. I don't have a machine apart right now that I could test with.

I have it in front of me now.
The connector in question is almost at the end of a dark brown plastic film, just off centerline at the back of the system board. The film is indented for it. a "4" is at top left of the connector and "J26" is at the right bottom corner.
If I reassemble it I will post what works and what doesn't, but I'd rather not if it turns out I need a new base unit/mb anyway.
