X21: safe system temps?
X21: safe system temps?
i've got mobilemeter running on a X21 here and its reporting the tempreture (not hdd) around the 55-70C ranges!
its sitting on one of the port replicators on a wooden desk with plenty of space around it for air to move around.
i know this cant end well but what temps should i start worrying at? it seems to be the hottest under the HDD bay, ive got a 40gb 5400rpm drive with hitachi's power boost software applying maximum power saving..

I have a T41 that I upgraded to a 1.8Ghz Dothan, and 60Gb 7200rpm hard drive. Mobile Meter says 45 degress for the CPU and 27 degrees for the hard drive. This machine has always run cool.
I am fixing at T32 for a friend (new 30Gb hard drive under warranty). This is a P3, and CPU and Hard disk both run about 10 degrees hotter. This T23 used to be mine, and always felt hot.

Should be absolutely fine. Btw, with MobileMeter, you can also check out what the critical temperature of your computer is like. Read my other posting here for more information:skanky wrote:i've got mobilemeter running on a X21 here and its reporting the tempreture (not hdd) around the 55-70C ranges!

The X20 and X21 are VERY similar. AFAICT, the X21 is simply an X20 available with 128MB RAM on mobo, and a Pentium III 700.AKD wrote:currently as i type my x20 is running at 61c, but i have a loud fan and am trying to get it fixed.... another with an x20 posted around a max of 55c on my post about my loud fan....
but i dont know how similar x20 and 21 is...
best of luck.
