Need to ID AC Adapter for T40

#1 Post by mpcook » Mon Oct 15, 2007 6:01 pm

My wife got a refurbished T40 from her work. We have so many odd AC adapters laying around the house, I can't determine which one anymore came with the T40. Today she plugged a random TP adapter into her T40 and it would not charge. This was FRU 02K6756. I then tried an 02K6669 which appears to work. I also have an 08K8213 and a 92P1021 laying around. This is before looking in boxes and drawers. All of these are 4.5amp and would be from a T2* series, a dock, or the T40 (I could have an odd 600 series adapater but unlikely). The 6756 does not appear to work with the T40; I haven't tried the rest yet. I also have some 3.36 adapters from my X3* collection, but I know enough to avoid using them with the T series.

Does anyone know for certain which of these goes with the T40? I would expect that any 4.5amp would work, but that does not seem to be the case (or maybe I have a bad adapter).

Thanks for the insight!
Mike

Thanks Harry, I've already seen this, only one of the four adapters are listed here, not sure what that means. It looks like any 72 watt adapter should be good with any
- A20m, A20p, A21e, A21m, A21p, A22e, A22m, A22p, A30, A30p, A31, A31p
-R30, R31, R32, R40, R40e, R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R51e, R52
-T20, T21, T22, T23, T30, T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p
-X20, X21, X22, X23, X24, X30, X31, X40, X41, X41 Tablet

If so, maybe I got a bad one.
Thanks

Or maybe you have a bad cord. Try one from one of the adapters that works and see what happens.

The 4.5a is the correct adapter for the T series. The others may work but will charge the battery slower and may not properly power connected accessories. I had a T series where I used my A22p adapter. Worked fine except when I connected a USB drive and then the T43p would freeze and shutdown. Using the proper 4.5a adapter solved this problem.

I decided to throw away the one that appears to not work, why take a chance? I have about four other 4.5a adapters, all with different FRU numbers. I am now using the one with the only FRU number I find on the Lenovo website. It works fine with the T40. The others seem to work fine too, but I''ll use them with my other TP's - T23, X32.
