On screen brightness level meter gone

#1 Post by rarirurero » Tue Oct 16, 2007 11:14 pm

Part of my on-screen drawer seems to be dead; when I adjust the volume, everything is fine, but Fn + Brightness Up/Down don't show the meter on the screen (the brightness changes just fine, though).

Two causes of the error that I can think of are:
* when I shut down my computer, I plugged in the AC adapter (which then changed the brightness)
* when I shut down Ubuntu (I dual-boot Ubuntu 7.10 and Vista Business) the brightness was not 100%. This caused another error where my brightness on boot was the brightness at which Ubuntu shut down (I had to re-boot into Ubuntu, max my brightness, and shut down to fix this)

I have reinstalled the hotkeys driver, BIOS is up-to-date, etc.

Would anyone happen to have a fix?

The problem seemed to fix itself - not really sure why.
I've found that with the T60 you need to be careful with sleep mode; let it sleep completely before closing the lid if you use Fn + F4, or if you close the lid to let it sleep, wait till completion before opening it again. I've had all sorts of weird things happen otherwise.
