T61 14' screen with unreadable text

#1 Post by lukenet » Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:10 am

Hi,

I have just got my new LENOVO 7664I2M,
Monitor Type : LTN141W1-L05 - 14 inches

I'am really disappointed with the screen, well more specifically the readability of the text on the screen.

It seems like the screen is not set at the correct resolution, currently 1280x800. Text is jagged and when you using smoothing, it goes washed out and distorted..

If you need an example, just change your LCD screen from its native resolution.

Is this a fault with the screen or normal. If it is normal, it is by far the worst screen I have ever used..

I am missing a setting or something? I am using Vista (first time) so that could be an option.

Any advice is most welcome..

Just out of curiosity, have you tried a higher resolution? Maybe they sent you a higher resolution screen in error.

You might also try downloading and reinstalling the Video driver:

That is what it seems like, but the slider is all the way to the max. 1200x800 = the same as the max reported video resolution for my laptop.

I will try to reinstall the video driver.

P.S. Thanks for the links..

Do you have 'cleartype' turned on? Mine came with it turned off (and, if I recall correctly, there's another post somewhere in this forum indicating that most Lenovo machines with vista are shipping that way). Text looks substantially better with it turned on.

I knew about this one.. but under vista, it took me a while to find the setting.

I have installed the new driver, but no luck :( Am I the only one with this issue... It is a real shame.. I love my Thinkpads.. I have had them since my first 486 with Win 3.11 for work groups..

This is the first one I am really disappointed with!

The model you mentioned has a native resolution of 1280x800 according to lenovo support site. If you think it doesn't look like so, you probably should contact their service center.

I'd have to agree. I just got my T61 yesterday and the viewing angles are TERRIBLE. I think this is what causes the "grainy" or "unreadable" text. I notice that when I look directly at the text on the screen from a 90 degree angle, it looks ok. However, a vertical or horizontal eye movement of about 25 degrees causes the text I was looking at to turn kinda "purplish" and "blurry".

Basically, if the top part of the screen is in focus, I can't look to the bottom and still see the text as clearly. That's how bad the viewing angles are.

Is this indicative of the LG or the Samsung panel? or both??
