R40 no audio @ post or in Windows. (Pic)

So I loaned my Lenovo/Thinkpad R40 notebook to my brother, I just got it back after 2 months, and it was riddled with spyware. I got it cleaned up then realized the sound no longer worked. I've tried everything, from using the System Update software to downloading and installing the drivers myself. I get no sound at all, I mean not even out of the headphone jack. Even when I plug the ac adapter into the back, there's no beep, or when it posts, there's no beep. I at first thought maybe the speakers were unhooked or something from the board. If that was the case then I should get sound out of the headphone jack? I guess the board is screwed up or something, has anyone come across something like this? No the sound isn't muted, I've checked that, and the volume is turned all the way up using the buttons on the keyboard bezel.

Tru borrowing a "live" Linux CD from someone and see what happens...

Yeah I'm downloading it as we speak, but what has me puzzled is the no audio at post.

/Edit: No sound there either...

I pulled the cmos battery, and completely disassembled the thing to check to see if maybe the speakers came unhooked, no such luck. So I guess the sound board is KIA, oh well Creative makes a nice PCMCIA soundcard, just have to convince my brother to buy it for me, or at least go half on it.
