Docking station disables USB ports?

#1 Post by GhostriderTx » Thu Oct 18, 2007 11:09 am

I have a new T61 widescreen with XP. I attached it to the 2504 dock which Lenovo shows as supported and have a USB mouse and KB. It allows me to enter the power on pw with the keyboard but then both the USB mouse and KB do not work. I cannot enter the Windows sign on pw and the mouse is non functional. If I use an older non usb keyboard I can enter the Windows stuff. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

RE:usb when on dock

I've been known to have issues with windows getting confused with the dock before on my t30. I have actually had to unplug and re-seat the connections after windows was booted (I think I'd fixed it, but I can't remember how.) Also, make sure to try all of the USB ports to see if it's port-specific or system wide.

Well I figured it out and it could be a windows issue. When I said new I should have said I did a new fresh load of XP and then this happened. It appears that my version of XP does not recognize usb devices until after it fully loads which it cannot do without the pw. I had booted the T61 several times with the internal mouse and kb so they worked. I did this and then added the usb mouse and kb and let windows find them After this I can boot with them attached and they work. Apparently my version of XP doesn't allow find the devices until after you enter the password so you must use the internal kb at least once.
