New T30 owner, couple quick questions.

#1 Post by cmpcpro » Fri Oct 19, 2007 4:12 pm

Hi all, I just purchased a used T30 for $300. I have a couple of questions. First off if I unplug it from power it will say the battery is critically low and I need to save my work before I lose it and so on, however the battery shows 100% and lasts for about two hours.

Another problem is, it seems on of the slots on the motherboard for ram doesn't work. Only one works, if I try the other the computer wont boot, just beep a few times.

Lastly the bezel on the LCD seems to be split on each side in the same exact spot. Right where the bezel goes from thin to the big bottom part of the bezel. In other words, right on the bottm corners of the start button and the clock... is that a common problem on these systems? It doesn't seem to hurt anything but still...

Anyway, thanks ahead of time, sorry for all the questions!

Chris

The battery sounds like it has bad internal circuitry. Bad RAM slots on the T30's is a common problem. The only fix is a new system board. IBM had a recall awhile back and was replacing boards for this problem. I think that has long expired. LCD bezel...someone replaced the LCD who didn't know what they were doing.

Found great company that fixes the memory slot

I tried the pieces of paper in the slots and worked fine for a while, then started having issues.

Read in the other forums and just "bit the bullet" and I just had mine fixed.

The cost was $65 to have it fixed and shipped back. I spent another $35 to box and ship to him.

Now both slots have 512MB chips, and works like a champ.

I highly recommend these guys ...

I see they have brand new T2X series batteries there (hammerhead) for $22.99 if anyone needs one. That is a good deal, but they might be NOS.
