Z61t Desktop Icons Arrangements (pic)

#1 Post by Vert.E.Gogh » Sat Oct 20, 2007 6:00 am

Hello All,

I was wondering whether all or only some Z61t notebooks have that weird, out of sorts looking arrangement of the desktop icons (under Win XP, for instance). You know, where the icons are small, spaced farther apart than normal and the descriptions under each icon doesn't have normal word wrap. It's hard to describe, so i've included a picture:

Image

This is picture shows a Z61t 1440x900 display.

My questions are:

1) Is this caused by software or hardware (i.e., the OS, driver(s), etc., or the display screen or some other part)?

2) Is this only on the Z61t WXGA+ 1440x900 models? Does the Z61t WXGA 1280x768 (or 1280x800) models show the desktop icons in the same unappealing way or in a normal way?

3) Can this be fixed on the WXGA+ models to show the icons in a normal way? If so, how?

Lastly,
4) What exactly is the resolution on a Z61t 14.1" WXGA? Is it 1280x800 or 1280x768? For example, type-model 9443-97U is shown as 14.1" WXGA 1280x800 in Tabook but is described as 1280x768 on lenovo.com when you search the type-model number. Which is it, 800 or 768?

Most appreciative of your responses and thoughts. Thanks.

This is caused by the preinstalled Lenovo image having non-standard values for icon spacing in the display settings department.

Right click Desktop -> Properties -> Appearance -> Advanced

Play with Icon Spacing, horizontal and vertical. Mine are currently set to 43 (with Icon size being 32 and Icon font being 8), and it looks just fine. You can adjust it to your liking.

Note that you will need to reboot to have it apply the settings properly. At first it will look distorted.

The WXGA resolution is 1280X800.
