Software Image Compatibility

#1 Post by lophiomys » Sun Nov 07, 2004 7:47 am

Does someone actually know about a list containing the model numbers
with "software image compatibility" ?

I couldn't find anything but vague statements on the IBM website.

Thinkpads of R and T-series are advertised with following statements:
R-Series
Software image compatibility with select ThinkPad X and R Series notebooks
...
The ThinkPad R51, R50 and R40 preloaded software images are compatible with ThinkPad X31, T41 and T40 models.

T-Series
Image compatibility for easier rollouts... The ThinkPad T42 and T41 preloaded software image is compatible with ThinkPad X40, X31, T40, R51, R50, and R40 models.

It's IBM-speak for the fact that recovery CD images can be used on more than one model of Thinkpad so that purchasers of multiple units needn't worry about commonality.

What has you concerned about this "compatibility"?

Thanks for your reply.
Sorry, it seems that I worded my questiion not clearly enough.

I just want to know which models exactly are
"software image compatible" with eachother-
In planning to purchase some more Thinkpads,
I want to get maximum compatiblity among different models.

The IBM feature description only mentions "selected models",
therefore I wonder, if there are sinlge models which are not "software image compatible",
even so a sentence like " R51, R50 and R40 preloaded software images are compatible with ThinkPad X31, T41 and T40 models"
would make a customer think that all R50, R51 and X31, T41 and T40 models are compatible respective to their software image.

I was hoping for a document similar to the tabook.pdf listing the
comptaible models.
