Well i wonder if my T42 has that? I sometimes wanted to connect my machine to another over LAN instead of AD-HOC since it's faster to copy huge ISOs but yeah that would be good to be able to do :)

I don't get it. Are you talking about hooking up two machines straight together with ethernet? Because they do that already.

You need an ethernet crossover cable.

Hmm... no wonder you're confused :) This was split from another thread where a user with a T60 mentioned they had the option to just use a normal CAT-5 cable to connect 2 systems. I was just curious to see if the T4x series had that since they also had the Intel 1Gbps port. I guess a mod/admin split it and create this thread from it.

Anyways, so the ports we have aren't MDI-X capable i guess? Sure i know about crossover cables but i just thought we had that too :)

No need tho really, i got switches connected to those Powerline networking stuff all over the house :) Main router is downstairs with one Powerline adapter connected to it and then the others are plugged in in the living room and my room.

The T42's gigabit chipset DOES have Auto-MDIX. It's enabled by default. In fact, I'm not sure if there is a way to disable it. :) I know because my old T42 had it and I used it ALL the time and it is the HANDIEST thing to not ever have to worry again about whether or not you forgot to bring a crossover cable with you. It just works, regardless of whether or not you use a crossover cable and regardless of what you plug it into.

Honestly, though, if you want to know whether or not your ThinkPad has a feature like Auto-MDIX, why don't you just try it? Find another computer somewhere, take a straight patch cable, jack them together, and see if you get a link. Takes 5 seconds, couldn't be easier.
