problem with the dvd/cd writer. can't read the cd but...

I am having problem with the cd writer/dvd.
I am not able to run the music cd if I haven't inserted the dvd media.

I have no clue what's wrong with it. I am not using any copy cd. I am using the original cd.


anybody knows what's wrong with it?

The way you phrased your problem leads me to conclude the following:

I can't play music off a CD if I do not insert a DVD. That leads me to conclude that you have two units a cd-rom/cd-writer and a dvd-player.

Questions:
Is my assumption above correct? If so does that mean you cannot play a CD (music) without a DVD present in the DVD player? If that is the case why not try to use the DVD player to play music CD's? If this is a problem, maybe it is possible to make the CD player the first device available rather than the second (i.e. the cd player is found first and the dvd player second.)

If the above does not apply (i.e. it is a combo drive and you only have one unit) then I believe the response you get is appropriate. Obviously the player cannot play any media that is not inserted.
