WIFI LED IS NOT LIT AFTER DRIVER UPGRADE
WIFI LED IS NOT LIT AFTER DRIVER UPGRADE
After all the help that I had received from the community that ended up that 1802 was not enable. By enabling 1802 I was able to get the wifi indicator led to turn on.
I just went and a did a driver upgrade a couple days of go. I now noticed the wifi led no longer is being lit. I went back and made sure that 1802 was enable using the boot up disk that is required to turn off and on 1802.
I also had used the boot utility to enter my serial number that includes my model number, which was missing in the bios print out.
Does anyone know if the new driver was the cause or did I just missed up on entering the s/n?
I have a t42 2373-4wv which is label on the bottom of the t42.
Thank you for your help

well wait, do you have an IBM card or not? You don't need 1802 (therefore it's OFF) when you have an IBM card and the LED should work then. If you don't have an IBM Wifi Card and you have to enable 1802 (ON) then the LED wont work.
If you do have it off then just upgraded the driver then you might just have to go to the device manager and disable the wifi card. Right click it and choose disable then right click again and choose enable. That'll reset the LED to being On again.

The wifi card is an IBM compatible card. I have several cards and some will not boot when 1802 is enable while others boot up fine.
I can only think when I had put in the s/n in the bios that this particular model , 2373 4WV, was meant not handle an 802.11 a/b/g card?
Assuming that is correct where can one fine the correct model after one has upgraded one hardware?

If you are using IBM OEM wifi cards you should not use the 1802 WiFi fix.
The BIOS tests the installed hardware looking for a particular response from various hardware items and and all the 1802 WiFi fix does is chnage the bit flag in the CMOS memory which enables the BIOS test for the WiFi card.
Also the BIOS does not specifically look at the machine serial number, it just stores it. The BIOS does not know or care what the specific machine configuration or serial number is. It is only concerned with the general configuration of the Thinkpad.
So whatever your WiFi problems are with genuine IBM OEM WiFi cards, they are not related to the 1802 Wifi fix in any way.
