thinkpad t30 replacing the fan
My thinkpad T30 the fan does not work anymore. I am trying to find out how to replace it. Is there a website I can go to and find a instruction sheet.
It looks like the display needs to come off to seperate the case.

Welcome to the forum!!
I'd suggest checking the FAQ on the main page. You would have found a link to the Hardware Maintenance Manuals, which will show you almost everything that you need to know about your T30, including replacing parts.

replaced the fan now monitor is blank
I printed out the IBM manual for the T30. I followed the step by step procedure for replacing the fan.
1) remove battery
2) remove battery backup
3) remove hard drive
4)remove CD drive
5)remove DIMM
6)remove Keyboard
I than installed the devices and powered up the laptop and now the fan is working but the screen is black.
I tried an external monitor and had the same results.
It looks like the computer is not seeing the hard drive. The hard drive light comes on for several seconds than shuts off.
Did I lose the Bios by removing the battery backup?
I have removed the hard drive and reinstalled but the same results
I need some help

t30 will now run for 30seconds to minute than shut off
I went through all of the devices I removed and rechecked them. I pushed down on the cpu and re-locked it.
Now the laptop will start up and I can get to the Bios to change the date and time and the laptop shuts off.
I have tried it several times with the same results.
What did I mess up?

Did you apply thermal paste between CPU and fan-unit?
If not, you would have almost instant overheating, which causes a shutdown after a few seconds.

t30 problem solved
Thanks for the replies. the first problem was that when I removed the fan it must of loosened the CPU from the socket. I removed the fan again and unlocked the CPU and pushed down and relocked. That allowed me to run the BIOS until the CPU overheated. When I took the fan out again I did not use any termal paste when I put it back in. So I put the paste on and the computer is now working.
Thanks Again
