re-extending warranty

#1 Post by dcouzin » Tue Oct 23, 2007 5:46 pm

The extended warranty for my T42 ends in November. A while back a Lenovo phone rep told me that re-extension of the warranty is impossible. In case others of you are laboring under the same misinformation: I just now phoned 866-723-7950 and added 2 years to the warranty.

Cool: So you had a 1 year warranty and extended it for 2 more and you've just done the same again for a total of 5 years from new?

Yes, exactly. After two perfect years, the third year entailed several warranty repairs, and I suspect the fourth and fifth will too. The two year re-extension cost $259, but without it I think I'd have a hot potato.

Extending warran: Will Lenovo/USA do this on "foreign&q

Hey, wait, are you saying that Lenovo in the USA extended the warranty on a German-registred and -residing ThinkPad?? [Note: By "registred" I mean that the "Location:" on the Warranty Lookup page is given as Germany]. If so, I would very much appreciate confirmation about this!

If extended warranty on e.g. European ThinkPad's can be ordered at IBM (or Lenovo??) in the USA, I am (pleasantly!) surprised, because I have read quite a bit of fine print on the IBM warranty descriptions, and I have discovered that the by far most attractive warranties (e.g. a 5-year extension, counting from the ThinkPad date-of-birth) are only available in the USA. As an example, the IBM part number 69P9201 "5 YR depot repair" (for $220,-) is not offered in Europe - only available in the USA... :-( But, now hear this; forum.thinkpads user sktn77a got an even better deal; the IBM P/N 41C9180 for only $169 (being 5-year parts and labor, "Pick-up and return")... see the thread Warranty extension, the posts of Thu Aug 02, 2007 12:58 am and onwards. If that one could be bought and applied to my "Danish" T42 (which is nearing the end of its initial three-year warranty), I would be highly interested!

If of interest, there are pointers to four recent threads about warranty-extension in this thread; see the post of Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:55 pm.

... and I understand that you ask about re-extending warranty, and not only an initial extension, but I would guess that if IBM/Lnovo in the USA would sell re-extension warranties to us Europeans, they would also sell "initial extensions".

Thanks in advance to anyone who could shed lights on the ability for Europeans to obtain the very benificial "american" warranties.

Best regards,

Johan

Sorry Johan, my T42 was registered in USA, and to re-extend the warranty I had to keep that USA registration.
