x61s 8-cell Extended Battery Option Missing

#1 Post by vagabonder » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:52 pm

One of these days I'm going to order a x61s but my trusty x31 keeps on humming along so who knows when <grin>?

I do check the Lenovo website periodically to keep up on pricing and options. I notice that the 8-cell extended battery is no longer shown as an option - at least as of this writing (Oct 24, 2007). Presumably in short supply and removed to prevent lengthy delivery schedules?

AFAIK, there is no 8-cell extended battery, there is 4-cell Extended Life Battery that goes into the X6 Ultrabase.

If you would like to order your thinkpad X61s with 8-cell "High Capacity" battery then wait till the option comes again online or create a quote, call 1-866-96-THINK to have a sales representative do the quote match matchup for you and request for 8-cell high capacity battery to be added to your order instead of 4-cell.

I found this on another site posting. They say 9 cell but I think they mean 8:

Good news? For some, I hope...
I just talked with a CS rep because my order (supposed to be shipped yesterday, 10/25/07) just got delayed to 1/08/08 like some other folks here. He assured me that my order was not going to be delayed that long. After a few minutes of checking, he told me it would be shipping next week. I'm not terribly pleased but I will go ahead and wait. I'm just getting nervous because I absolutely have to have a laptop by Thanksgiving.

From the information the CS rep had, the delay (this time ahem, ahem) was due to a short supply of 9-cell batteries. People ordering around 10/19 or after are affected most by the shortage. He told me he heard through the Lenovo grapevine that a warehouse fire had destroyed many of the 9 cell batteries they did have in stock. It will take 50-60 days to get that supply back to what it was. He did emphasize that this was second-hand information. It certainly didn't sound like the typical, scripted CS stuff so I'm willing to believe the explanation.

I do see that, currently, there is no 9 cell option to choose from at their store. So they definitely can't take any new orders for those. But it looks like they're short on DVD-Recordable drives too. That's not good.

Yeah, I ordered an 8-cell in Canada for $100 from Lenovo.ca, and almost 4 weeks later it still hasn't arrived. If it doesn't arrive in the next week, I'll call to complain and get some (further) discount. They told me it'd be here within 2-3 weeks.
