what's the difference between batteries off ebay vs. lenovo

#1 Post by vk60402 » Thu Oct 25, 2007 10:13 am

if I buy a battery for T60 that's off of ebay, it's much cheaper than the one available through lenovo.

But other than a price, is there really a difference? I used to own thinkpad R40 and the ebay battery did not perfectly sit in the battery compartment, but it worked find otherwise. Though I've always wondered if it was possible to destroy or damage the thinkpad laptop using the non-lenovo batteries.

All thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

Because unless there is a giant scam going on (Compaq battery recall a few years back), most of them are fakes that were made in China. It's the same reason I don't buy the $4 or the $40 ones off of taobao. The charge won't last as long for one, you have no idea what you are getting, and it's most likely a health hazard. When your laptop blows up, IBM's not gonna cover it if you have a fake battery. If you can afford a genuine IBM, you can afford a genuine battery.

If you want to be safe, demand a serial number before you buy and check it with IBM if you are paranoid. If they don't supply one alert ebay they are selling fake merchandise. If you get something other than that battery, file a claim.

There are also good third-party battery makers. Try kahlon.com for one. They've been selling laptop batteries (and memory) for years.

Do yourself a FAVOR and just buy the lenovo brand battery from costcentral.com. Here is why.

When the battery explodes and takes out your laptop, knees and the tv next to you Jim Bobs battery sales won't do crap. Lenovo will give you a million dollars.

I bought one of those batteries off ebay. Brand new from a reputable seller. Got it for my A22p. I started smelling something and flipped the computer over, the battery cells were melting right out of the casing. Needless to say I sent it back. Caught it before it exploded.

I think your battery is like $128 for 9 cell at costcentral.com. Cheapest I could find for new lenovo battery.
Vista and NVIDIA is the SUCK?

Just so you know too, you can buy Lenovo batteries new and used in the marketplace here as well as on eBay. Odds are you buy one from here you can get a good deal and it'll be an original battery, not some fake junk. I'd never buy one of those "compatible" batteries unless i was selling my laptop to someone i dind't want ot have it. LOL (that was so mean  ) That way i get the money and they get nothing! (so mean)
