Trackpoint button got out of its place

#1 Post by Kike G. » Thu Oct 25, 2007 7:52 pm

Hi,

The left button of my T40's trackpoint just split out of its place. I don't think it's broken, because when I take a look at it, nothing seems to be broken. It has three plastic tabs that seem to attach it to its place in the computer (where also anything seems to be broken, for there remain unbroken the three slots where apparently those tabs must be attached to).

However, when I try to put the button back in to its place just by pressing it down, it doesn't fit. Well, I mean, it does fit in there, and also the button works well; but it doesn't remain there: When I close the lid and take the laptop somewhere else, I can hear the button dancing all over the keyboard, and when I open the lid, it is anywhere else rather than attached to its place.

Maybe there are some special way to insert tabs in their slots. Does someone know a link with some instructions? Does someone know how to put it back?

Perhaps is broken and I didn't realize. How can I know that?

Regards,
Enrique

I had that happen to my T42P but it was not totally out and I was able to push it back on. If yours actually came out, you could try rotating it to find the right orientation.

The only part that should remove from the keyboard is the red tip. If any more than that is coming off your keyboard is broken. Do you have any warranty left? If so they will send you a new keyboard.
