Can T23 parts be used in a T4x?

I have a T23 that's on its deathbed (see sig) and I'm contemplating its replacement.

If I buy a T4x, can I reuse the DVD burner and/or RAM from it? (I'm guessing the RAM is less likely.)

Now to confess the heresy I'm contemplating ... As much as I love my ThinkPad, I'm seriously tempted to just buy a new run-of-the-mill laptop from another maker instead of a used ThinkPad. The prices are pretty comparable. I had to replace a screen and a hard drive in the T23, and the idea of buying something new that (theoretically) won't need work is appealing. (The cheapest new ThinkPad that appeals to me is ~$700, and I'd rather not spend that much.)

The memory and optical drive from a T23 will not fit/work in a T4x.
