Windows XP install issue

#1 Post by t-mow » Fri Oct 26, 2007 6:12 am

I would like to install Windows XP instead the preinstalled Vista on my new T61 but it seems to me that there is a problem with the hardware detection.

The XP install CD boots up normally. I press the any key to start test installation. Now appears the hardware detection message and nothing. The screen stays black.

I tried multiple install cds all with SP2 and the SATA mode is changed to compatibility. Does anybody know how about this and how to install windows XP in this case?

When you say multiple CD's with SP2, can I assume they're not burned and are original from Microsoft?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

You can! The T61 is not my only computer. I share my home with two other guys. I tried their XP Cds.

I believe some Windows Install CD's (or more accurately called System Recovery CD's in this case) only work on the hardware they were designed for. They check the BIOS to verify that you are not trying to use them on some other manufacturer's PC.
