T60p w/ 2 L200p Monitors vs T61p w/ 2 L220x Monitors?

#1 Post by Sleep Machine » Fri Oct 26, 2007 2:42 pm

I have a T60p 2623DDU in the advanced dock running two 20.1 inch L200p monitors at 1600x1200 (finally retired my A31p running the same setup). Using XP.

I just saw the ads for the new Thinkvision L220X 22 inch 1920x1200 monitor and this got me thinking about getting a WUXGA T61p (or at least ordering one and waiting) and two of the L220X monitors. Again using XP.

1. I do nothing fancy graphically.
2. What do I gain?
3. Any comments about the L220X?

As to replace the T60p system and the L200p, or as a second setup?

As to replace it, i think it would be a pretty stupid "upgrade" or a downgrade i'd rather call it, depending on good your luck is. :)
I think you're not using the thinkpad lcd, but mainly the external monitors, correct?

The L200ps contain 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201U03) panel, the L220X a S-PVA panel. Considering that you'll have to spend more money and time on getting a new setup, and the IQ probably won't be quite as high, i'd call it a downgrade unless you really want WUXGA. I'm only talking from specs, so unless there's something wrong with your current L200ps...

As to two, what to gain for your uses? nothing at all, in my opinion.

You gain 320x1200 more pixels and a few thousand $K less in your bank account.

One thing I don't understand is what does the laptop have to do with the monitors. It's not like you cannot connect your T60p to the L220x, or the T61p to the L200p. These are two separate questions.

1. Replacement for existing setup. Not using Thinkpad LCD - - it's closed. Nothing wrong with the L200p monitors.
2. Use two monitors for word processing and just general day-to-day stuff.
3. Bottom line: sounds like you believe that the L220X monitors only add a little more left to right room and nothing in improved "picture quality."

Nobody has seen these L220x monitors yet, so no one can offer you anything but speculations regarding image quality.
