need help for my T43 lcd (pic)

#1 Post by marcooks » Fri Oct 26, 2007 4:34 pm

Hi everyone,

last week I had problem with my screen... (my cat dropped my laptop) so I'm not sure if I really need to change my lcd or maybe it would be anything else.

Could it be the "inverter"?

I've unplugged the lcd and the inverter...same thing. Someone has told me about the "backlight". But You will see in the picture that there is light in the back.

Thank for any help.

Does the machine display correctly if plugged into an external monitor? If yes, than I'd reseat the LCD ribbon cable both at the back of the LCD and at the system board. If it still fails replace the LCD.

I've tried to unplug and replug the lcd in the back...nothing more

Also, when I move the mouse I can see the lines moving....

More and more I think I'll need a new lcd

All the inverter does is supply high voltage to the backlight. The backlight is just a type of fluorescent lamp. Basically it is either on or off. Neither the inverter or backlight would cause what you are seeing. It could be the LCD, the ribbon cable or cable connection, or the motherboard. Try what Harryc suggests and plug an external monitor (desktop display) onto the VGA port on the right side of the laptop. Do you see a normal display on the external monitor?

Since your machine works with an external monitor, the problem is most likely a bad LCD. What resolution is it?

That is true, Flexview LCD's for Thinkpads only come in 15" sizes. Ok, so you need a 14" SXGA+ LCD for a T43.

Brand new at AG Parts - $269.
http://www.agpartsworldwide.com/html/ibm.php

Used on EBay - $129 and up, closer to $200 for Grade A
USED T43 SXGA LCD

Here's an entire asembly, probably your best bet -
T43 LCD Assm. on EBay

Good luck.
