TP G40 2.5ghz 1.25GB Ram 80GB XP Recovery CDs Price Reduced

#1 Post by vme2mopars » Sat Oct 27, 2007 5:30 am

I have for sale an original owner, September 2004 build IBM Thinkpad G40 2388-HBU. It runs fast at 2.5ghz, it's is built like a Panzer tank, and it's in very good condition. The laptop is located in Auburn AL. I'll take $400 or best offer , and I'll ship the laptop for $25 to anywhere in the continental United States(ie Alaska and Hawaii will be more. I will only sell and/or ship to the United States or Canada. Please read my detailed explanation below, and see the laptop via the links at the very bottom of this post(please read the picture size disclaimer as well).

You may PM me here, but email is preferred. My email address is chargerbatyahoo.com(replace the at with @). If you want to speak with me over the phone, send me an email, and I will send you my phone number so you can call me.

These are the features:
OS: Windows XP Home with valid, legal COA still attached to the machine. I have the IBM Restore CD’s for the G40, so I will format the hard drive and restore the machine to its original configuration before shipping. Upon customer request, I will also include an archival COPY of the Restore CD's.

Processor: This machine has the fullsize Socket 478 Intel Pentium4 based Celeron(Northwood) processor running at 2.5ghz. According to a conversation I had with a tech at the Atlanta Service Center, the heatsink on this model is able to handle up to a 3.06ghz full size Pentium 4 chip. In addition, the Pentium 4's share the same socket size, and the tech indicated that a Bios Update(if needed) is all you need for compatibility.

Ram: The machine has 1gb of Crucial PC2700 RAM in form of one DIMM and 256mb of Micron Ram. This machine has the latest G40 bios, and it recognized 2GB of ram, when I tested

Hard Disc:80gb Seagate 5400rpm hard drive. This is a brand new hard drive purchased in August 2007. The only reason I put in a new harddrive is because I'm an academic, and I had completely filled up the factory 40gb with data sets, regression output, and articles. The factory 40gb now resides in an adapter in my desktop.

Display & Graphics: 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD with an Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics Chipset

Media: 3.5" floppy drive

Media: 24x-10x CD-ROM

Communications: Modem

Communications: 10/100 Ethernet

Communications:4 USB Ports

Card Slots: Type I and II PC Card Slots

Battery: 6 cell Li-Ion battery. Battery holds a good charge.

Description of Wear and Tear: On the back cover of the LCD(the black plastic piece with the IBM logo branded on it) beside the really thin metal hinge, there is a chip in the plastic. The chip is pictured below, circled in green. There is also a two inch scratch on the LCD which just barely noticeable when the LCD is off, and isn't noticeable with the LCD on, except at certain angles in the right light. The scratch isn't deep, and in fact is outer most layer of the LCD's polycarbonate plastic. The scratch is circled in yellow in a picture below. Also, due to the age of the LCD cable, there are three very thin vertical lines that occur when the LCD is on. These are concentrated on the right hand side of the screen, and are not a nuisance or distraction as they are inconspicuous.

DISCLAIMER OF WEAR AND TEAR: Please understand, I have never abused, mistreated, or irresponsibly handled this laptop. The chip in the rear cover plastic and the LCD scratch both were caused on the one occaision I took the laptop on a trip, and the damage was caused by the Homeland Security Baggage checkers.

LAPTOP HISTORY & SUMMARY OF OWNER USE:
This laptop was purchased exactly 3 years ago, and it has only been used for travel. I run Stata, SAS, NLOGIT, Matlab, and Maple on this machine, and this laptop handles these programs as fast as any desktop machine I’ve used.

Beyond the explanation of the wear and tear, there are no problems with this machine of which I am aware, and I am still using it currently. It has no problems with running hot, and it has never been operated where it could be damaged (outside, on non-hard surfaces, where the cooling fan and heat sink could be compromised, etc). This laptop is three years old, and thus I make no warranties, expressed or implied. I make no warranties or guarantees of merchantability, fitness for use
