What difference does Radeo vs. Intel graphics make?

#1 Post by tbessie » Thu May 27, 2004 12:38 pm

People have complained about the X40's having Intel integrated graphics in it, as opposed to a Radeon chip. What difference in everyday usage does this make?

I *have* seen what seemed to be a slightly noticeable lag in refreshes, some jumpiness when scrolling through lots of text, etc. That shouldn't happen with ANY modern laptop, in my opinion. Is this one of the effects of this other chip?

My X40s nice, but it would be nice if it were a mite faster. I wonder if they could have done that without sacrificing time on battery and weight.

I got an X40

Seems okay, except (as mentioned elsewhere) that I've been used to my A31, which has a Flexview screen... very bright and viewable at all angles. So the need to look my screen straight-on to see everything clearly is annoying, since this machine cost around as much as my A31 did. I'm not quite sure what I'm paying for, except the IBM name and the fact that it's small and light. Seems okay in general, though. There *are* 1-3 dead pixels (if it's more than 1, their in a group) near the bottom center of the screen, which is annoying (I keep wanting to flick away a dust speck). But in general, no big complaints.

If I could, I'd have everything the same, except a separate graphics processor and a flexview screen... oh, and a 5400 or 7200 RPM disk.

that's exactly why ibm is keeping the X31 around.   ;)

lol, i didn't mean that the X31 would last forever...   :P   my guess is that it will last until Q4 '04.
