Lenovo 3000 N100 - CNET Editors Review
Lenovo 3000 N100 - CNET People Reviews
I am posting these links for reference. I'd like to know the following 2 things:
- Independent reviews of people who have this laptop
- Peoples thoughts on the REALITY, AUTHENTICITY & IMPACT of the NEGATIVE / Low Rank reviews posted on the People Reviews. Do they hold water?
I recently saw it at Fry's for $629. Would it be a good buy for someone who is totally new to computers and will barely use it a lot?

It would be, althought you should note it's not a thinkpad (1 non thinkpad feature is no pointing stick) which I believe you're very much already aware of.crashnburn wrote:snip......I recently saw it at Fry's for $629. I think with that budget you can find a decent thinkpad from Lenovo Outlet, otherwise that's a good machine IMHO.

From my experience, the user reviews are usually more reliable than the editors', simply because most users have used the product for much longer. However, some users give very low scores not because of problems with the product, but because of other issues such as slow shipment from Lenovo, their' own ignorance (e.g. not knowing that Vista won't run well with 512MB RAM), etc. Just ignore these scores.crashnburn wrote:- Peoples thoughts on the REALITY, AUTHENTICITY & IMPACT of the NEGATIVE / Low Rank reviews posted on the People Reviews. Its C2D N100 T2060 1.6Ghz, 1G, 120G, DDRWDLDVD, ABG, Webcam
$629 + Tax
I compared it to the outlet prices.. If it was me I'd add some more $$$ and go for a T-series.
This is for a computer newbie who might benefit from stupidities such as Webcam.. more RAM.. HDD etc..with Hardware volume controls etc.. a consumer focussed model.
Here PRICE being most important as its not meant for someone who uses it a lot.. but might need simple features.
Is the Celeron going to be really bad / slow? I have some celeron models Im looking at for 350-499$ AR..
Thoughts?
Some more models that I liked...
Acer Extensa 2310
Toshibas - 449 - 599
Thoughts on these?

I dont think he would use it enough "ever" in his life to want a THINKPAD.
I'd appreciate some comparative thoughts from you guys on the laptops I have posted here
- The N100
- The Acer Extensa (I bought it last night and might swap it for the N100 from Fry's since they are similar configs & prices - If I get enough of a 'case' for it. )

N100 - my personal review
I have this machine for past 2 weeks now, and while its a very good value for money, you must know the following
* its speakers are fairly soft (which is fine if you are gonna be using headphones / speakers) ;
* it comes with vibrantview screen (which makes long viewing hours very disrupting due to reflections on the lcd coming from all angles of your ceiling.
All in all, still a wonderful machine. It not being a Thinkpad doesnt matter but its still a good quality Lenovo.
