OEM Vista License tied to 32 or 64-bit?

#1 Post by ajwreinhardt » Sat Oct 27, 2007 11:03 pm

Has anyone attempted to get 64-bit Vista for a Thinkpad that has 32-bit on it? I am being told by Lenovo that I can do either or, and not have a license for both...this is making no sense unless there is some weird business deal between Lenovo and MS that is causing this...MS doesn't do this with their retail copies. Has anyone had any experience with this? Do product keys for 32-bit OEM even work for 64-bit? Thanks!

Retail vs OEM

That is not true. If you purchase a retail copy of Vista Ultimate, both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions are included and they use the same CD key.

Since Lenovo has an OEM licence. I doubt this will work.

Also, you will find that the key on your COA, will not match the key that is actually used on the preload.

But the only way to know for sure is to try and report back.
