Are A30 and A31 keyboard bezels identical? Need to buy A31

Hi,

I need to buy a new keyboard bezel for my A31. The little button that the LCD pushes when closed to let the machine know to go to sleep is broken (I repaired it once, but it's again messing up..).

I was wondering if the A30 bezel (part 26P9446) and the A31 keyboard bezel (part 46L6401) are identical? I ask because one is $5 on ebay and the other $40... they look the same, but I'm wondering if there might be different screw positions, etc.

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the A30/A31, FRU 26P9446 does not exist. It is also not found when searching IBM or Lenovo web sites. The FRU 46L6401 is listed as being for both A30/p and A31/p systems. It also says that it's a replacement for 26P9642.

Looking at the eBay listings, both 26P numbers are found in descriptions for both A30 and A31 systems. I think you will be safe in getting any keyboard bezel that is listed as being for an A30 or A31. This is all based upon the published information and not from any personal experience. Maybe our resident A31 farmer can back all of this up.

Since Ray has called me on this, here's what I (don't) know and how I see it:

I have a bezel from a 14" A30 that I can't find a FRU on, but the part number is 26P9446. Measured both with a ruler and against an A31p, I can't find any difference between the two.

I'd be willing to get rid of it cheap, so contact me if interested.

I've got an A31 which is apart for cleaning (so I have the bezel off), and I also have some A30 parts in my bin.

The A30 is stamped P/N 26P9446 #3 made in Mexico.
The A31 is printed IBM ASM P/N 46L6400 made in China. It also has stamped into the plastic P/N26P9446 #2

As far as I can tell they are identical - the stamped part numbers are the same too.
