DOS USB Driver for 600X for USB backup Drive?

#1 Post by BillG » Sun Oct 28, 2007 10:32 pm

I'm trying to back up my ThinkPad 600X to a USB backup drive, using Norton Ghost 2003.

Ghost reboots to DOS before backing up; however, I keep getting a USB driver error.

Has anyone backed up a 600X with Ghost via a USB drive? How and where do I load the correct DOS USB driver?

I don't believe that what you are trying to do will work.
If there is a way that it will work, (I've never tried it), is to use the 600s external floppy with the hdd adapter for the ultrabay (FRU 05K5338). With 1st and 2nd hdds in the 600 you may be able to ghost from floppy. I think, in theory, this would work.

Yeah, I can back up to a hard drive in the bay, sure. But I'd like to be able to backup to my external USB drive.

However, sicne I just learned that the 600X has USB 1.1 and not USB 2.0, the point is moot anyway - takes forever to backup 35GGig of data via USB 1.1.

I might look at a Firewire PC Card

just buy one pf these adaptors, take the drive out of your 600X and install it as a regular drive in your desktop and the rest you already know what to do.
Less elegant then what you wanted to do but works great.

yeah, I've seen those adapters. But every week I don't want to have to remove my HD from my 600X, open my desktop, install my 600X HD, do the backup, remove the HD from my desktop, then re-install it into my 600X.

I bought myself a firewire PCCARD and WOW!!! backups are BLAZINGLY fast! I can backup 45G of data files in less than 10 minutes!
