T61p Memory Module from 2GB to 3GB

#1 Post by mientras » Wed Oct 31, 2007 9:14 pm

I read several of the memory threads, but I hope someone can enlighten me how go to 3GB on my T61p - running Vista Ultimate 32bit.

I purchased the T61p from Lenovo with 2GB. It has two 1GB modules installed. I want to go to 3GB by replacing one of the 1GB modules with a 2GB.

Crucial has a 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 for $99; and a DDR2 PC2-6400 for $185. Obviously the 6400 module is faster.

Will the PC2-5300 module do? I have no idea what modules Lenovo installed.

Also - Newegg has a Trascend 6400 module for $65.00 as well as other brands.

If I was to replace just one of the 1GB modules originally shipped by Lenovo, what is the best 2GB match/value alternative?

the T61p cannot utilize the added speed of the PC2-6400 modules because the memory bus is only 667MHz.   save your money and buy one 2GB PC2-5300 module. ;)

definitely go with crucial.

You can get the Crucial one cheaper from Newegg. $81 the last time I looked.
