i'm about to order a thinkvision L220x and am curious if the T61p's VGA port will output a high enough quality signal for this display. i ask because i'd rather not mess with a dock just for the DVI port unless absolutely necessary. i don't play games and rarely watch DVDs on my T61p if that matters at all.
so, will VGA cut it or do i absolutely need to use DVI?
thanks in advance.

Depends how fussy your eyes are. I haven't used the L220x but have hooked my T61p up to some Dell 24" monitors at 1920x1200 and the difference between VGA and DVI is clearly noticeable.
Let us know how you go.

Yeah, i dont have my 220x yet
but as those resolutions your gonna want DVI, the VGA capable but generally not as good for a permanent setup (unfortunately its my only option at the moment as I use an X series at the moment).
My eyes are not that good or fussy and I can notice the difference so i'd advise you to spring for an advanced mini dock at the same time as your monitor.

my use is for graphic design, product design, and photography so a quality display is paramount. sounds like DVI is the best way to go. i was hoping to go without a dock but i guess that won't happen until thinkpads have on-board DVI ports.
the advanced mini dock is relatively small so i'll add it to my order and call it a day. when everything shows up i'll test VGA against DVI just to see what happens.
thanks everyone! i appreciate it.
