dock PCI card firewire/usb 2.0 (poll incl.) + questions!

#1 Post by charlienyc » Thu Nov 01, 2007 9:45 pm

hi. first off, i've done a few searches on this topic both here and on thinkwiki with no success. doh!

second, my goal: to add firewire and usb 2.0 functionality to my A31. i would love to do this using my 2631 dock instead of using pcmcia card(s).

third, my story: i borrowed a combo pci card from work and installed it. fyi it's an ultra-low-end zonet zuc2400. it works perfectly in my ancient work confuser. anyway, the dock fan spun up but the confuser was otherwise unresponsive. no go! :(
out of necessity, i held the power button down to shut down. i then ejected the A31, booted it up, and then docked it - hoping to force it to work. i had the same result. everything froze up and i again had to force it to power down. clearly the card is not compatible.

fourth, my question: is there a combo firewire & usb 2.0 card that is known to work in the dock? i would like a min. of 2 firewire 400 and 2 usb 2.0 ports. although i don't need firewire 800 (1394b), it wouldn't hurt as i do have 800 drives. heck, pm me if you want to sell me your working card! 8)

cheers,
-c

[edit: the question is more important to me than the poll, but i can't delete the poll either  ]
