Getting to safe mode with a T60

#1 Post by sveremey » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:51 pm

I can't seem to get my T60 to give me the safe mode boot prompt...

I use F8 like typical XP setups, no? It doesn't seem to work on this machine... it appears to just ignore my holding of F8. I tried doing it sooner but just got the "stuck key" message on powerup.

What am I missing?

Try pressing the F8 key about once per second after you turn on the power.

I don't have any trouble doing this on a warm reboot (restart) with my T42, but I have heard of some computers needing to be powered off (cold boot) before they could enter Safe Mode. I haven't heard of any ThinkPads requiring this, but if you still have trouble, give it a shot.

Thanks,
I did get it to work, but I'm not sure if there was any "magic" to it.

It may have been after a full power off...

But it may just have been my timing with it. It took a few more tries. Maybe with the newer faster processors it is a smaller window of time.

Who knows, at least I got it. Thanks!
